You Are More than Your Body

The focus should be on your overall self-image more than just your body image

Our bodies are only vessels for what we truly are made of. Our intellects, sound minds, pure soul, and spirit. When we dwell on how the body looks, we may overlook the importance of what our core aspects are — which can be detrimental to our being.

The body is made up of conspicuous parts which help to start our definitions as people. Some will say their bodies are what cause them to be where they are or have what they do. But unless you’re a bodybuilder or trainer, our bodies are mere containers.

Due to various standards of definitions of what a good body or beauty represents today, a lot of pressure has been indirectly or directly mounted on a lot of us. Who start to focus more on how they look versus what we are made up of on the inside. Talk about slimmer or slender stature, glowing skin, bulky arms, pointed nose, and so on.

The body is a means of attracting people or opportunities in today’s world. But for those of us who have been made overly body conscious due to not meeting certain standards, it becomes the order of the day. In a way that aims to rip out the true content of what we represent on the inside.

This explains why we shouldn’t dwell or focus much on what our bodies look like. And lose sight of who we are in general.

We Are More Than Our Bodies

Our bodies are just a body. What we stand for, our values, and our morals are elements that should define who we are. Elements like honesty, gratitude, being charitable, compassionate, and so on. A person with the most attractive body but without solid foundations about the true essence of humanity and showing it, is lacking severely. The body might as well be termed decayed alongside the soulless characteristic.

Body Consciousness Ruins the Motive

The essence of being body conscious is to be sure you’re caring well for the vessel that embodies your pure and sound soul and mind. Any other kind is the pressure from society to force-fit oneself into what is believed to be the standard. Body consciousness ruins the motive for wanting to improve yourself from the inside. Which is truly what matters.

Body Image Plays a Slight Role

The way we look plays a role in the way we feel. The way we feel orchestrates the way we think which invariably affects the state of our minds. So, rather than dwell on your body in the negative light, it’s best to pinpoint what you think your body goals are and how it helps to uplift your soul and spirit to become a wholesome, sounder person — inside out.

Self-acceptance Reverses the Odd Mentality

In the end, it takes only self-acceptance to embrace oneself in totality. It’s not in a self-abandoning way, but rather in a way that you do not allow your undesirable body feature, for instance, to affect the way you see and treat yourself. Because people often punish themselves by indulging in habits that deprecate their body image as a way to salvage their minds or spirits. Habits like feeding their bodies with junk or overeating, heavy smokers and drinkers, drug addictions, and all sorts. Punishing your body intentionally is not a form of acceptance, but rather the lack of strength and courage to work through the process of mending yourself holistically.

Abandoning your body won’t satisfy the mind but staying overly focused on your body image won’t clear your head either. Balance is of the essence when it comes to how you treat your body versus your mind. Seeing that each of them is directly proportional and highly contributory to your total well-being.

It helps to accept your body shape and size. Embrace who you are devoid of how you look. But if how you look bothers you a lot and is workable, for health purposes, then search for ways to improve your physical health — on your own terms and in your own way. As not every routine or guideline works for every body type. Do this and be relieved from the constant torture of excess body consciousness, instead bask in the alienation of that misery by focusing on your inner worth. Your values, morals, and principles are true guidelines for your authentic living.

Good luck.
