Respect is a core attribute easily mistaken as a right. The reason is that, if you are a stickler for respecting people in addition to yourself, you’re bound to expect the same from others to a large extent. Which you can say is greatly associative with a sense of entitlement. But there are many ways to obtain people’s respect almost instantaneously.
By sticking to your words. If you’re the type who manifests his words as their bond, it not only makes you admirable, but highly respectable. People respect people they can trust, people who are reliable and willing to stick to their words no matter the circumstance.
Self-control is a non-negotiable trait of a highly respectable person. Simply because they choose when and where to dispense their energy constructively. Hence if something gnawing occurs in their life, they’ve mastered the art of controlling themself as opposed to controlling others or external events.
People who protect others are highly admirable. The ability to stand up for people who are oppressed, or less privileged, whether directly related to you or not, says a lot about your personality — as one who deserves all the respect.
One who pays back his debt is a respectable person. It’s not easy, most especially in these hard times to payback borrowed loan, mortgage, or debt. So, a person who’s willing to keep up with his part of the bargain is highly respectable.
A person of few words but tangible, consistent actions is a respectable person. Many dynamics exist in the world today. Prices are rising, the governments change, and people die. As such amid this chaos, finding a person who continues to show you him or herself as the same concerning his or her positive attitude toward you or something else, is a very respectable person.
Honest people are highly respectable. This is similar to the first point. The ability to speak your truth devoid of who or what it hurts, stands the test of time on how respectable as a person you are.
There are many ways you could gain one’s respect, the points above are only a select few resounding ones. There are many ways to lose respect, mostly for people who give and value respect a lot. Losing respect for yourself is not a good virtue, it can go ahead to destroy a lot of things for you in many sectors of life. Such as your relationships and friendships, career, and other important life deals. Respect yourself, and respect others, and it will be reciprocated. You need respect.
