When you raise your hands in the air when you give a heavy sigh when you smile in the face of adversity. These are the common signs that you have surrendered to the tight hold you had on things that were unyielding. This is the act of looking up to the sky and admitting that you tried your very best and things remained as is. This is the act of acknowledging reality for what it is and willing to unshackle yourself from the aftermath having not in the first place. The act of surrendering is when you can finally let go of trying severally on that project that drained the last watt of your human energy. Relationship. Family. Work. Life. It is when you let go of what anyone has to say about you and live your life on your own terms. Becoming the driver in your own wheels. Becoming the protagonist in your own life movie.

The act of surrendering is when you let go of even the most important things that seem to drag you back than propel you. The act of surrendering works like this: I love you but I don’t want to be with you. I do not want to see you anymore”. It is when you bid goodbye to your past life and identities. The past relationships that aren’t in tune with your newly found relationship with yourself. The act of surrendering is like facing your fears, the neglect, and the pain that comes with now sticking to your lane — being comfortable in your own skin, your own space, and your own life. Without all the external worldly hassles.

The act of surrendering isn’t a sign of weakness. On the contrary, it’s a sign of strength, courage, tenacity. When you have summoned the courage to admit to something that doesn’t deserve your push and give it a rest. It’s saying to the world: life “you didn’t succeed in ridding me”. “I surrender because I’m strong enough to concede to a much powerful hold”. One that I can’t control and empowers me concomitantly. That is the act of surrendering.

It also works antithetically to the above. The act of surrendering strips you of your ego, pride, resistance, and negligence. And draws you nearer to what is most important. It helps you realize what needs investing your time, money, and energy in accomplishing. This is why the act of surrendering also boosts productivity. It helps to save you time and to utilize them well on essential things while giving up on the inconsequential ones. The act of surrendering beckons on your heart to forgive by, first of all, letting go. It beckons on your spirit to be moved and swipe left to negativity. It abhors your mind from derailing from the clutch of unneeded life vices.

The act of surrendering is a sign of humility. It shows that you understand you don’t have the capability to keep holding tight. And rather than be embarrassed, you’re giving in. Not giving up. The act of surrendering would make you feel like a fool, but, in fact, you’re wiser than your counterpart.

As the popular quote states thus: if you want to know if something is for you, let it go. If it returns back to you, then it’s truly yours. This is basically the ideology of surrendering.

But you won’t know until you’ve tried it. Let go of the stronghold. Say no to mental slavery or any related other. Spread your wings, look up to the sky, take a deep breath, give off a huge sigh, smile even if currently facing adversity. And watch the burden uplift from your shoulders and your mind — for more fulfillment.
