The first prompt when asked what a healthy marriage entails by anyone is that marriage is meant to be enjoyed not endured. Which is wholesome, because what’s the point of two people from different backgrounds coming together only to endure as though marriage is a struggle.

But that’s the misconception.

Marriage isn’t the beautiful thing, love is.

Marriage is another stage of love that almost complicates love.

Most people who are compatible with love mustn’t be for marriage. If they’re set to marry, then they’re bound to endure it more than enjoy it.

This is me saying that marriage isn’t for everyone and when incompatible folks force love to metamorphose into marriage, it breeds all the symptoms that make marriage look like hell.

But what about those who are compatible with it but still encounter their version of enduring hell you may ask?

Honestly, marriage can be deeply frustrating. People often say, “Marriage is a scam,” but the truth is, it’s just not what many expect it to be.

It is meant to be a union that brings people together in love and unity, but oftentimes, exudes the political characteristic of it that makes it overwhelming.

I’m talking of the mind games, the division in role-playing, and shared duties/responsibilities.

Marriage often feels like a battle rather than a union. It connotes a silent competition that strangles the very phenomenon about it. Yet, there is hope for those who choose to navigate these complex waters with patience, understanding, and mutual respect. A successful marriage requires continuous effort, open communication, and the willingness to adapt and grow together.

It’s important to remember that every partnership is unique, and shaped by the individuals within it. What works for one couple may not work for another, and that’s perfectly okay. Finding joy in the small moments, celebrating each other’s successes, and supporting one another through challenges can make a world of difference.

Marriage can become a beautiful journey when both partners are committed to nurturing the relationship and prioritizing love above all else. It’s about building a life together, cherishing shared memories, and creating a supportive and loving environment where both individuals can thrive.

In the end, while marriage may present its fair share of challenges, it also offers the opportunity for profound connection, companionship, and a deeper understanding of oneself and one’s partner. By embracing these aspects, couples can transform their marriage in the small moments, celebrating each other’s successes, and supporting one another through challenges can make a world of difference.
