Just like in democracy where the majority carries the vote, it runs in two ways; for good or bad motives. Likewise in other areas of life sometimes when majority of people — be it family, friends, colleagues and other categories of people, appear to be on a side for or against you, it doesn’t always necessitate as the minority being bad.
The world today upholds the mentality that everyone should be as unique as possible and yet contradicts it when it’s expected that you follow the crowd and not be conspicuous as that will be frowned upon by the society or other expectants in this case and be termed strange.
I’m here to say that the majority carries the vote but not necessarily for good. A huge chunk of people may be going against you plainly because they do not understand you; your colleagues at work may gang up against you plainly because they wish they had the kind of guts you had, the society may frown at your uniqueness and the sort of mentality you possess simply because you’re about to implement a tangible, much-needed change.
I’m here to say that you’re not broken, you’re different and only seeking ways to broaden the views other myopic sets of people have by serving as the inadvertent scapegoat and there’s nothing abominable in that.
You need to see beyond what other people are doing or what group they belong to in the world starting with family, friends, colleagues, co-(whichever social group there is) and start forging your own path.
To do this, you must understand first that there’s nothing wrong with having a mind of your own.
You must then determine the kind of person you are and where you possibly fit in — is it with the good or bad, poor or rich (which can be defined in many ways), firm or feeble, aspirational or indolent. These will help categorize you as either unique or common, something I like to refer to as minority or majority respectively.
When you happen to fall into the minority group, be steadfast in upholding all the values that led you there and hopeful that one day, the group of people who cast you out or are in the common group will start to see things through your lens and you would have exhibited rare power and change that was unsolicited yet much needed — as that is the whole point in the first place, to implement a better change devoid of standing alone.
Don’t form an alliance with the group where your actions will always be attached with the word “too”.
Majority carries the vote in democracy for governance but in the real world with real issues, majority doesn’t always carry the vote for a good cause therefore when you ascertain who you are and find out you’re amongst the rare group of people standing alone and doing well with upholding your values that will administer better change to the world, do not be so worried about that because you’re in the inconspicuous winning team.
Stand tall and firm even it means standing alone because you totally aren’t. There are few other people like you out there who will believe in you and your works and be inspired for a greater cause. By then your destiny would have been fulfilled before you even realize it.
The world could really use more than a person to effect a tangible change but the point is for you to be the change by starting with yourself first and not expect a crowd or force-fit yourself into one when you haven’t done so yet.
If you ask me again, I’d reaffirm that it’s better to be involved in a minority group of powerful people with powerful ways of doing things than be involved in the majority group of people the world loves to see but are too common to effect any tangible change. Don’t form an alliance with a group where your actions will always be attached with the word too.
