Have you ever felt like you were acting out of character?

Do you constantly feel the snowball of guilt building up on the inside that makes you want to disown yourself upon realization of what you’ve done?

Pardon Yourself For It

Chances are, you’re a good person who can’t help but do what you’re conditioned to do.

Guilt is an after-feeling that results from doing something you know you ought not to have done. It triggers a sense of reflection in you for you to evaluate your wrong doings and seek ways to improve. So, when guilt comes knocking next time, do not feel bad for giving in.

But then, I digress

When you catch yourself consciously or unintentionally exhibiting traits that aren’t aligned with who you are, it’s always as a result of underlying problems that self-awareness and mindfulness will help solve.

When you utilize these skills, you may find out that you tend to misbehave at certain periods of time and normal when it’s all over. This is what I refer to as a conditioned or seasonal behavior. It’s a phase of life that pushes you to do things you’d normally not do all because of the condition or situation you found yourself in. You may have noticed you tend to have more panic attacks when surrounded by your large family members even when you thought that part of you had subsided or be compelled to lie a lot or portray a fake persona when you’re in the midst of people you perceive to be better than you even when you’d have sworn that aspect of you was changed.

Whatever it is, it’s only a phase and you’re acting according to the condition.

Forgiving yourself often will continue to help you pinpoint when you misbehave, why you misbehave and how best to cope when faced with that condition/situation next time.
