There’re formidable circumstances you find yourself in as a human that prompts you to react in certain unexpected ways. You may have lost a loved one, married the wrong person, lost a good job, started your personal business afresh, you name it. Whatever it is, strong emotions abound in the form of anger, physical pain, frustration, sadness, depression and regret etcetera. Now, if you’re someone who isn’t pretentious as well, you’ll usually let these emotions out and let it run its full course — and in the bid to doing that, ask God why.

As someone who possesses all these traits and still has a tight relationship with God, I’m here to say that it’s normal to ask God why.

Asking God why depicts a lot of things about you that you may not be aware of;

  1. It shows you do have a relationship with God in the first place.
  2. It shows you believe in him enough to know that he knows you no matter how you feel or what you say. Which brings me to my 3rd and final point
  3. It shows that you’re real and open with him as much as possible — good communication.

And that’s why when you feel joy, you praise him and when you feel pain, you ask him why.

And when he gives you his reasons, as a child who knows his father, you pay attention and listen — this is the most important aspect of a relationship; openness and understanding.

With that said, no one has the right to interfere in your relationship with God — from how you choose to regard him, express yourself to him or make do with what he has to tell you in return.

Do not let the pressure of what “man” says should or shouldn’t happen, stop you from being/expressing your emotions the way God has created you to — he’s the ultimate and your relationship with him remains unique.

Next time you feel some type of way about anything, take it to God, ask him why if you must. He’s gracious and merciful enough to give you reasons in ways that you’ll understand and be grateful for afterward. After all, he’s God.
