I’m a “Words” Girl

The popular opinion is that “action speaks louder than words” and while that’s an actuality, it’s the direct opposite when it comes to me — and a few others if they will admit.

Luckily for me, I found one person who seems to be in the same lane as me. It was double validating to know such a thing was a “thing” after I spoke to my loving cousin. It made sense why certain people are geared towards reading your stuff while others aren’t even though they mean to support you in your venture.

My cousin is one of the dedicated readers I have. She never fails to support me that way, but also herself by allowing those words to sow a seed in her. I never wondered why because I mean, I’m a great writer lol. But conversing with her and hearing her say she was a “words” girl put a lot of things into perspective for me.

Before now, I always believed in words way more than action but couldn’t bring myself to admit nor accept it because reverse ought to be the case. Apart from that, I felt it would be weird to believe what anyone had to say over what they showed me. Right?

But I stopped fighting myself after that conversation with my cousin.

It made a liberating sense.

In that, spoken words are spiritual. They come from a place of superseding realm. A candescent one at that judging by the history of how words and communication came to be from when we are kids.

As adults, we now know that one of the most important milestones of a child is when they begin to talk. Parents, like me, would wish the words “daddy” or “mummy” be said first. It bears a sign of inner joy when one or both are finally accomplished.

Then we grow, and words start to form sentences, which shape our mode of expression and communication.

I can say now that I relish every means of communication (verbally and written).

Other reasons why I do are:

The tongue is powerful. No, the words coming out from the tongue is what’s powerful

When we pronounce things with our mouths it has a way of signaling our brain to believe it and help it materialize. For instance, if you say you’re beautiful, the brain interprets this and helps release the right hormones that will make you feel that good. Thus, you get to see the beauty you spoke about. Likewise, when you say pronounce negative things.

Words are deeper than action

Words when used rightly go a long way to penetrating the soul. It can change an unchangeable heart and elicit forgiveness where there was resentment, love where there was hatred, and peace where there was disarray. It can mend a broken heart. Only by using words. As the Bible passage states thus in Luke 6:45, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. Use your words wisely.

Word is art

Sentences formed in the lyrics of a song, poetries, and hymns originate from using words — which makes words artistic in the sense to reach a wider audience and as a form of entertainment too. This means that words in this context can produce positive vibes and healing.

A word is enough

One word is a word, two words are just two. Words cannot be minced. They are as authentic as they’re used. There’s no other way around it, therefore, using words to express yourself is as authentic as it gets too.

Word is historical

Words are used to create an adage, inspirational quote, or a long-standing saying. These span from historical times and are usually drawn to the present as comparative or contrasting references in buttressing a point. For instance, is the Bible passage I referenced above. Words when used in this context have long-lasting effects on people due to their tangibility.

Words hurts as well as heals

You can use words as weapons to attack and a tool or medicine to amend or heal. It’s always at our discretion.

Words can be opposed

Words are there to be used, abused, concurred to, as well as opposed to.

I’m proud to say that I’m a “words” girl and to learn that I’m not the only one (due to my cousin), nor are we the only ones. We believe in action but what we hear or say transcends it. We didn’t choose to be like that.

In a nutshell: I take a contrarian stance against the saying that action speaks louder than words. Because:

  • Words have a way of penetrating the soul.
  • Saying the right thing, the right way, and the right time can go a long way to mending a broken heart automatically.
  • Words are used to render apologies which are resounding than actions that can fade away.
  • Word is artistic.
  • A word is enough
  • Words form adages that reveal their long use in human expression and communication for wisdom.
  • Words hurt like stones thrown, but they heal like medicines administered intravenously.

I feel liberated to equally be using words to express how much I love words and am such a “words” girl.

How about you?
