I Pay To Write On Medium.
And just like every transaction that I make, I will give an account of what I purchased.
I’ve formed the habit of writing at least twice a week. I’ve been doing so for many months now until a week ago when my motivation got sapped away and momentum disrupted.
All because of what?
Not getting the right kind of vibe (mostly external) to do so.
I forgot a lot of things when I skipped writing or publishing my work then — and that is the fact that I write for many reasons that supersedes only having the right kind of vibe to do so.
Which are;
- I write to express
- I write to inspire.
- I write to heal.
- I write to learn.
- I write to better understand.
- I write to inform.
- I write to educate.
- I most definitely write because I paid for it and just like every transaction that I make, I must give an account of what I purchased.
And the list goes on.
What I most definitely don’t write for includes;
- To impress.
- For approval.
I don’t write “for” but rather “to” something.
Judging by these, it’s evident that I certainly didn’t and still don’t need the right kind of vibe to write unless my motivation stems from those external things in the first place.
Likewise, anything else you may have started doing that you treasure or that has a stronger purpose, unless you derived the motivation to do so from something external, you don’t need anything else other than you, your instincts, propulsion, feelings and reasons why you want to accomplish those things in the first place to fulfill them.
Motivation and momentum must come from within to keep going. Inspiration can be external.
I’ve made a pact to keep writing no matter what, all because of the reasons I highlighted above and also to make good use of my hard earned money I spare every month in so doing.
I don’t need the right kind of vibe, all I need is me and then all the physical materials needed (pen, paper, laptop, tablet or phone and internet connection with a fully functional Medium app) to accomplish my goal(s).
Just like calling cards, bill payment receipts, car utility receipts, etcetera, I remind myself to equally give an account for what I spend my precious money on Medium (monthly) doing— which is to proudly write. Always.
