Emotional connection tells apart those who are close to us from the ones who are not. This connection is instant when it has to do with our family members or loved ones, but with others, it’s built over time.

Although not always instant, emotional disconnection can occur over a period of time or instantly depending on the type of relationship through these 3 unstoppable factors:

1.) Invalidation: If you want to kill an emotional connection, invalidation is the main key for it. invalidation is the act of refusal to acknowledge others feelings or their emotions. It could be between friends, family, or people we meet along the way. Invalidating people’s feelings causes them to pull away from you, as it makes one question themselves in ways that depreciates their being. Therefore, if you’re trying to foster emotional connection with someone or build more on what you have, remember to validate their emotions always. Emotional validation aids all form of partnership and it promotes trust. The trust that comes from the knowledge that the other person understands you/your plight.

2.) Belittling Emotions: Another fast way to get rid of emotional connection of any sort, is dismissing one’s feelings. It is similar to invalidation, except that this time, comparison is drawn between one’s feelings to another, thus belittling how they may feel. This creates a huge gap in anyone’s relationship as opposed to nurturing their bond or connection.

3.) Dismissal: Dismissing someone’s feelings is a surefire way to disconnect from them emotionally. It says a lot about the type of relationship you share with them, it depicts disrespect, disregard, lack of care or intentionality to continue nurturing the bond or even with the relationship in totality.

In essence:

Emotional connection is the bedrock of any solid relationship; business, casual, or romantic. Depicting invalidation, belittling or dismissal of another’s feelings, not only says a lot about the relationship, but also the person depicting those traits. Questions surrounding their emotional capacity, emotional tolerance and intelligence. As only an emotionally aware and intelligent person sees to it to acknowledge others’ feelings and emotion devoid of their stance and differences.
