Guess What, I Tried It

Pain.

Yes, I tried to endure pain.

I placed my heavy phone on the very thumb that stresses the vein on my swollen wrist. Something so painful I not only see the protruded vein but my wrist bone too.

A condition known as De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.

The experimental analysis of placing an object as heavy as my phone on the painful thumb as you would imagine brought forth even greater pain. And I as left it there to stay put, it hurt more and more for a few seconds to a minute until it hurt no more.

It makes me remember the quote my mum used to say which goes thus: “ the more painful something becomes marks the beginning of the end of it”.

I believe it because this experiment taught me not only to learn to endure pain, but to do so believing that it’s only a matter of time and it’d hurt less. It also taught me a lesson that the greater the intensity, the nearer it is to the end of it.

So, let’s do ourselves the favor of not always escaping pain or expecting it to abruptly go away. Because if only, we would look at the bright side of things, we’d realize it’s a matter of time and intensity for it to hurt less or no more.
