Dead Inspiration is in Itself Inspiring

Our inspiration comes from a lot of places or things. Professional writers will always affirm taking a walk or jotting whatever ‘gibberish’ comes in their notebook makes for a real topic. That is true because it’s happening to me right now. For the past few weeks, I’ve had fewer than normal topics to write about, compared to the weeks before that.

There are causes for the lack of inspiration especially for creatives. Mostly as environmental factors and personal humane factors.

Environmental factors are the greatest drain on one’s inspiration. If you are in a place where there are commotions, a lack of encouragement, or generally a system that doesn’t support you, it is really hard to prosper. In such a case, you’re bound to keep fighting back against these things that you have little time to be inspired about anything (new). Whereas if you’re in a place that makes you feel welcomed and settled, your mind is open to receiving signals in the form of inspiration that motivates you to create something or do anything else for that matter.

For example, I do find my region (Africa) at times to be a negative factor for me in the pursuit of my writing aspiration. Sometimes the reasons for still being here and the lack of an appropriate system to elevate my dreams can cripple my zeal to do anything even or do more.

The second causal factor is the physical one. This explains where we lack the esteem or courage to nurture the talents we have. So, even if as a writer for example, you want to come up with something to write on, you automatically relinquish that idea through fear that you wouldn’t be able to meet up with the task. These personal factors can be addressed by questioning what your stumbling blocks might be within yourself, accepting them, and thus working on them. For instance, I’ve struggled with an inferiority complex for as long as I can remember, I’ve questioned it and I know it comes from my body weight insecurities. At times, this inferiority eats into my goals and ambitions completely unrelated to my body. And so, I’ve accepted what it is, and now working toward building more confidence ( also by reading more, leaving comments, and sharpening my cognitive skills thus), to allow me to gain inspiration and exercise my talent freely.

Ask yourself what you can do to be inspired. Also, reverse-analyze how not being inspired can be inspiring on its own by getting to the roots of the whys and hows. Use those Q&A moments as weapons to break through the stagnancy and realize that everywhere you look and everything you experience is a form of inspiration — and use it well.
